After graduated from Taiwan and returned to Macau, the young Macau artist Fan In Kuan will have her solo exhibition “Flexible Depth – Works by Fan In Kuan” in AFA on September 23 (Friday), at 6:30 p.m. This time a total of 13 sculptures will be showcased in the exhibition, mainly made of stone and metal, such as marble, granite, stainless steel and copper etc.
Talking about art creation, sculpture is considered as “heavy industry” as it requires lots of energy and work. Most of the artists who make sculptures are mainly men instead of women. That is why it makes a difference for the sculptures that made by female artists, which are more emphasis on the smoothness and flexibility.
During the artist’s middle school life, Fan could draw stunning watercolor works. However, after graduated from Taipei National University of Arts and gained a Master’s degree, Fan changed her creation and started doing stone sculptures. Viewing her art portfolio, lots of stone sculptures are so lively that it seems they are real before our eyes. For Fan, she has a meticulous thinking before making the sculptures. Hard stones are just like tofu puddings which are melting in the artist’s hand due to her mature skills in sculpture surface treatment.
The opening of “Flexible Depth – Works by Fan In Kuan” will take place in AFA Macau at 6:30p.m. on September 23 (Friday). The exhibition is partly sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Macao SAR Government. Media partners include Hoje Macau and Ponto Final. The exhibition will be opened to public from September 23 to October 16.
